Climate Change: How Your Business Could Help

There is a global conversation on the importance of taking notice of climate change, and too many in power are not paying any attention. The world cannot sustain the current way we are treating it, which is why there is such urgency to combat the way that climate change is affecting the planet. As a business, you are in a unique position to be able to help the cause, and it starts with the way you run things.

Whether you use companies like Onsemi to help drive that change via technology your business uses, or you work on creating a sustainability strategy that makes more sense for your business operations, you need to work on how you are treating the world around you. You have to make the climate and changing said climate a priority for your business, and knowing how to do that is where most businesses are stumped. Before you can work to reduce your emissions and better shape your consumption in energy, you have to know where you stand. You can use consultants to help you and they can help you to keep track of the energy you’re using. What is left is being able to take action and we’ve got four of those that you can start with.

  1. Switch your suppliers. It’s important that you choose suppliers for your energy that run a green campaign. If you know that you could be greener in your efforts, start there. It’s where you’re going to save money and save the energy you’re using. You don't have to install solar panels to have green electricity, but you could look into it for your business. Look into the regulated electricity market of your state and choose the option that is regulated and offers green pricing.

  2. Work on lowering your transport emissions. Are you running cars and lorries as standard with your business? If so, you need to do all that you can to work on your emission reduction. There is no point in trying to be better for the climate if you are pumping out emissions into the environment. When you reduce your emissions, you change how much you are responsible for putting out there into the atmosphere.

  3. Use materials that offer lower emissions. If you think about the materials that you buy from your suppliers, do you know what processes they use internally? You have to account for any emission reductions that they may already have achieved, because once you do this you can feel reassured that you are doing the best for the environment.

  4. Reduce your waste every way that you can. When you search through your internal waste processes, you’ll be able to take some time to reduce exactly how much wastage you have. The more you reduce your waste, the better for the environment. It's Not just food waste, but how much goes into landfill. Investing in recycling for both paper and electronic items, you’ll be able to do better for the world around you.
