Be more environmentally friendly by protecting your home

Be more environmentally friendly by protecting your home

Being more environmentally friendly is something that should be at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Hearing the fantastic news that the impacts of Coronavirus had on the environment should make everyone passionate about doing all we can to reduce waste and be more environmentally friendly.

A way we can reduce waste is simply by looking after our belongings. If we look after what we have, we shouldn’t need replacements.

The House

There are many ways we can make our home more environmentally friendly such as;

-Using smart technology to monitor our electric and gas consumption. Being aware of how much you are using can help us all be more mindful of the Earth’s dwindling resources, and making sure we only use them as and when necessary.

-Being aware of our energy consumption can help when we look at how we are acting within our own home. Making sure we turn lights off when we are not in the room is a quick and very easy way of saving electricity.

-Monitoring water consumption is also a great way of being more environmentally conscious. Reducing the amount of time the tap is running when brushing your teeth. Using water butts in the garden to collect rainwater can also make a drastic difference to not only the environment but your bills too.

House Investments

Along with monitoring how much you consume in the house, there are also house improvements that can be done to improve the amount of waste that is let off by your house.

-Solar panels are an excellent way to save money on electricity bills. Solar panels harvest the suns light and turn it into reusable energy for your home. Many solar panel deals now include batteries to store the energy made ready for you to have free energy. The initial cost can be a fair amount, however, it won’t take long to get your returns. Some companies will resell the energy you have made, but not used it back to the electricity companies making you extra money as well as providing you with free energy.

-Insulating the crawl space in your house is also a long term strategy to become more environmentally friendly. By insulating the crawl space, you are investing in the sustainability of your home. Keeping your home dry and damp free can be easily achieved with this long term solution. Crawlspace Depot has an excellent explanation of exactly how insulating the crawl space helps stop the materials that make up your house from eroding due to water damage. This means that less waste will be produced by your house over time, by reducing the need for repairs and improvements.
