Podcast Season 4: Generations by Decades

How does each generation view climate change?

We are beginning to develop our Series 4 podcast. We are exploring climate change actions and attitudes of people from their 20's into their 80's by decade. What is the most impactful way for each generation to engage in tackling climate change?

We'd love your thoughts! What question would you ask someone younger than you? Older than you? Let us know: GenerationsbyDecadesSurvey

Jimmy Jia Meets ISO 14000

How does sustainability metrics aggregate from ISO to ESG?

Jimmy’s PhD thesis investigation has exposed a number of issues which must be addressed if valid comparisons of organization's carbon footprints can be achieved. Without it, we will not be able to track carbon through the global economy.

Join us in January's What If? Sandbox to learn more and ask questions about how fundamental metrics are affecting economy-wide decisions.

Among them:

  • Supply Chain Reporting - Calculating the entire supply chain for each company means double counting when adding sectors together, as companies share supply chains.

  • Most Significant Carbon Contributors - Required to only measure and report the “most significant” carbon contributors,  resulting in known under accounting

  • Time-Value of Carbon - How do carbon attributes change over time

  • Self-determined boundary conditions - Reporting companies determine what to report on, with some guidance from industry standards.

We look forward to seeing you in our January What If? Sandbox! Date and Time TBD. Let us know if you would like to be alerted: ISO14000WhatIf?Sandbox

Project Drawdown Supports
Climate Action at Work by Employees

Project Drawdown has begun an initiative supporting business climate leadership that is driven by a company's employees. Their Drawdown Labs has developed a guidebook, Climate Solutions at Work, to help all employees, no matter what their industry, role or responsibilities, be equipped to take bolder action at work. This Sustainable Brands article well summarizes the project: https://sustainablebrands.com/read/organizational-change/project-drawdown-offers-guide-for-employees-to-enact-climate-solutions-at-work/?

This approach is in complete alignment with what the Levers of Exchange Community advocates: Every job is a sustainability job. We help individuals embrace and enhance their existing abilities to make the sustainability changes that they want. In our community, we help individuals exchange, question and innovate new tools to do our own jobs better. And along the way, we can contribute to building a sustainable world.

We applaud Project Drawdown's commitment to this initiative and it's well structured approach. An excerpt from Climate Solutions at Work:

Highly Recommended!

Our friend from Seattle, Eric Scigliano, has recently authored a new book, The Big Thaw, in collaboration with Dr. Robert Holmes, Dr. Susan Natali, Dr. John Schade and photographer Chris Linder. Even if you do know what permafrost is and its importance (We suspect you do!) this book is for you and friends. Not only does it get into the science, but also relates how this very key substance is at the heart of northern cultures. Plus the photography is compelling.
